On this one-day workshop you will learn: A. How to assess a shoulder - key questions to ask your clients - postural assessment relevant to the shoulder - how to identify key bony landmarks such as the coracoid process, AC joint,borders of the scapula, spine of the scapula, greater tubercle, lesser tubercle. - how to assess gross range of movement at the shoulder - how to assess accessory movements of the shoulder - how and why to load shoulder muscles - accurate palpation of shoulder muscles including supraspinatus, infraspinatus, levator scapulae, teres major + teres minor, latissimus dorsi, biceps brachii, triceps brachii, pectoralis minor, pectoralis major B. Common Shoulder Pathologies: identification and causes for: - Adhesive Capsulitis ('Frozen' shoulder) - Supraspinatus tendinopathies - Subacromial bursitis - Acromioclavicular ligament sprain - Rotator cuff strains - Clavicle fracture - Humeral fracture - Humeral dislocation C. After firstly reviewing the anatomy of the shoulder and palpating the area to locate its structures you will use body crayons to identify the muscles attached to the scapula, working in pairs you will learn how to test range of movement both actively and passively identifying increased and decreased ranges, a short video will be also be watched on the anatomy & physiology of the shoulder. Various treatments of the problems will be taught, including the use of accessory movements, distractions, subscapular work, soft tissue release, active and passive stretching, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation and trigger point therapy to the shoulder area. An extremely informative day and a must for all massage therapists to enable them to treat their clients shoulder problems effectively.
