The ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage (which should be studied either alongside or after taking Anatomy & Physiology & Professional Conduct & Business Awareness) will enable you upon successful completion to provide wonderfully relaxing and stress releasing massage to your clients either working in your own clinic, for a salon or a home visiting practice.
You will learn both the theory and practical elements of Massage including how to give a full body massage to your clients using the massage movements of Effleurage, Petrissage, Frictions, Percussion, Vibrations & Passive movements.
You will be taught to understand and recognise common ailments and contraindications to massage, appropriate client care and correct hygiene procedures, Home Care Advise, How to perform a correct consultation with your client prior to treatment, Referral Procedures, and correct posture as a therapist. A very thorough foundation course for anyone wishing to become a massage therapist.
This qualification will be internally assessed, using both assignments and assessments of skills as set out below. An ITEC Examiner will assess the technical skills and verify the assignments. The assessment methods and grading for each unit are as follows:
Unit 340 Provide Body Massage for Complementary Therapies - Practical Assessment
And Evidence of 12 Treatments.
Unit 341 Reflective Practice for Body Massage - 18 Case Studies
Unit 346 Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies - 1 50 Question Multiple Choice Theory Test Paper.
The following underpinning knowledge subject units are assessed internally by your tutor in the form of Assignments, which are then verified by an ITEC Examiner for grading as a pass or refer:
Unit 347 Knowledge of Less Common Pathology for Complementary Therapies
Unit 348 Principles and Practice of Complementary Therapies
Unit 349 Business Practice for Complementary Therapies
Unit 350 Health, Safety and Hygiene for Complementary Therapies
The pass grade that students can achieve with an aggregate marking system for their technical skills, assessments and the multiple choice theory paper are as follows:
Pass grade = 50 - 74%
Merit grade = 75 - 89%
Distinction grade = 90 - 100%
Course fees include:

- A Comprehensive Set of note for each session
- A Starter Kit containing: 1 Pillowcase, 1 Couch Cover, 1 pack of antiseptic wipes, students must bring their pillowcase and couch cover freshly laundered to each practical class. Antiseptic wipes must be replaced by student as required.

Massage Couches are available for use by students for teaching purposes, but students must ensure that they purchase their own massage couch for use on the practical examination day.
You will be expected to purchase the recommended course theory books available on this website: An Introductory Guide to Massage and Succeeding in Business (also An Introductory Guide to Anatomy & Physiology if you are also doing Units 346 and 347 (Anatomy & Physiology units).
Opportunities for progression from the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Massage will allow students to study for any of the following ITEC Level 3 Diploma's if they wish to do so:

Pre-requisite for Course:
This is a level 3 Diploma, ITEC recommend that candidates should hold at least 5 GCSE's at grades C or above or equivalent, but this is not by any means essential and is at the discretion of the college, we believe that each person is unique and has personal life skills which they are gifted with and these will always be taken into consideration in accepting students onto this course. please telephone us on 0208 287 6364 for an informal chat about this.
Any student wishing to enrol on this course must also hold an ITEC Anatomy & Physiology Diploma or equivalent and a Business module (previously ITEC Unit 22) or equivalent. These can be studied alongside Holistic Massage if you wish to complete all at the same time.
Learning & Examinations:
The course consists of 60 hours in-house training & assessment plus home study. You will be required to complete 18 case studies during your training period, with a full body massage and recording the outcomes. These will be handed in and marked by your tutor during your course and then be brought in for the practical exam and shown to the examiner.
All lectures are supported with overheads, anatomical charts and teaching aids such as skeletal models, interactive learning is always encouraged.
Upon satisfactory completion of a mock theory, students will be eligible to sit the ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage Level 3 examination which comprises a 1 hour Multiple Choice Theory Paper comprising 50 questions and 1 Hour Practical Examination. Once qualified, students will be awarded an ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage and become qualified as a Massage Therapist to work on clients.

17th April, Practical Exam Days TBA but most likely date 29th June 2011. Business Module 2 Days to be arranged. Course Cost: £580 plus ITEC exam fee (£80). (This whole amount can be paid in Instalments). Business Modules if students have not received a prior qualification in this subject through another Diploma subject (i.e. who have no prior approved learning in this subject, previously called unit 22 with itec) costs £150. _____________________________________________________________
